The plan to help the Forest!!!

W.A.L.T: entertain an audience

The night air was cool, the rustling sound of leaves dance across the forest floor.
one lonely Fantail popped its beck out of its bush, " i'm so cold, it is as cold as Antartica"" RRRRR"
"what was that""RRRRR"" Ahhhh" screamed the little Fantail. The Fantail was brown of course.
It has a very special tail like a Fan. It is Native to New Zealand. " BOO""Ahhhh". "i got you " laughed Little brown Kiwi. "yeah you did" said fantail looking down at his toes. " Can i stay the night"Pleaded Kiwi." sure" said Fantail. They Snugglesd in their cozy little bush until they heared a CRASH, BANG , BOOM. They looked around in a Startle. " what was that " asked kiwi in a whisper. " i don't know Kiwi" said Fantail in a low voice. "Lets investigate""I am not sure" Screcched brown kiwi. so they trotted down the river back until" Ahhhh""what Fantail"" A massive Machine drove over top of me"" I know"Said Kiwi behind a tree an Oak tree ". "Where are these things coming from". Well kiwi and fantail peered around not missing a inch the west, inch to the east , to the the south or north. " I think that those massive smokey, yellow machine is a nonstopable Bulldozer" said the little brown kiwi with his hands in the air then he wobbled them around. " What on earth are you doing" said fantail confused." Can't you see God has given us a sign"" what sign"" that these smokey , dirty ,yellow machines have come to pretect us from being endangered or extinct". Fantail wondered is it true or is it just one of Kiwi's dumb ideas. The brown kiwi looked at fantail" hey LOOK OUT" " WOAH" Crash, Crunch." A tree just about landed on ME" Yelled Fantail " Wait i i can see a light" said Kiwi with wide eyes" I can see this person" said Fantail. But that was not good news cause Fantail saw a Tree fall on the Forest floor and another and another and another. Kiwi looked in an amazment" I think they are decorating the forest"" no they are not, they are smaching down trees and driving over our homes and food" said Fantail in sorrow. " don't worry we will find out something hmmmm i know we will make a plan to get rid of these beasts" now, i know that normally kiwi isn't right but this time he is making some sense. So they rushed on home and made a plan to get those careless , nasty , people off their Forest. " Now" said Fantail " we can't do this alone, we need ......"some gagets and ropes....""No kiwi, we need other animals like mammals and inscets plus maybe even nocturnals". Fantail and the little Brown Kiwi called everyone in the forest, they called birds ,big cats, inscets and other type of mammals. They all gathered around the unknown camp site."okay Know for our attacks, SKUNKS GO". The skunks ran in and out, around and up. they blew off some gases did i say some i mean alot of gas. The mean, nasty, campsite people were holding there noses and they were bagging into things cause they could not see. Now the birds flew in with gas masks on there noses. Fantail started pecking at the ropes on the tents , then the tent fell on top of the people. The people could not get up. The big cats tyed ropes around there legs , then grose inscets crawled all over the people. " GO AWAY, you nasty , big , mean , careless people" yelled kiwi. the people got up yelling " these animals are insane" and they ran away home or did they.
Pinyarta, Pinyarta, " AHHH OWWW" yelled the people. " We have successfully done a good gob" said kiwi proud" and we have saved the forest" said Fantail. " well mother nature hasnt thanked us for saving the forest"" OHH Kiwi you still haven't changed".

THE END!!!!!!

Birds

On  Monday the 3 rd of  November in the afternoon we talked about our learning intention which was to learn about native birds characteristics and what there body, voices and the colours of  the birds are and none of us could explain there characteristics. We tried are thoughts and with a buddy we made up five different native birds i chose the Fantail,Kea , Tui ,Pukeko and the More pork . Then we started to right about there characteristics on the white board and in our books. Then we went out to the garden and pulled the grass out from around the trees . We did this because the grass is a weed and it could kill native trees which means there will be no food for the native birds and the birds will die.We also are going to the computer lab and doing posters on birds as i said  before I'm doing the Fantail , Kea , Tui , Pukeko and the More pork .

Nga Manu

Rooms 12 and13 had to be at school at 8.3o am after everyone was in the classroom our teacher called out the roll then we got on the bus. We finally arrived at Nga Manu after sitting on the bus for about 2 hours.

We sat down in the information centre and had our morning tea. Bob our instructor showed us a boy tuatara it is 12 years old then Bob took us too the eels they look very slimy. Everyone got to touch it. Ryan kissed one then turned around and claped hands with his mum there is a picture of him on the right.

After that my group went to the kea and it landed on my head, it gave me a shock because I never knew it was going to land on me.

After that we went to the lookout, I could see all of Nga Manu. It looked amazing because there were so much trees and bush. After we returned to the lunch area I tried to chase after a pukeko but I tripped up.

Everyone went on the bus and off we went. On the way home we stopped at the Levin park where everyone went on the flying fox. Takana ripped his leg open when he hit it against Hughe's head and I cut my foot on the mouse wheel.

It was a good trip to Nga Manu and I learnt that it's important to save birds and animals because they are kind of like humans and we don't want them to be extinct.

What Are We Learning About?

What Are We Learning About?

Today was the first day of school and I needed to prepare my class for their next part of the learning journey. We headed out to our native bush area at school and informed the children we were going to pull the weeds out around the trees. Off they went making comments such as:
  • Yuck there's a white tail spider!
  • Ewwwww! There's a slug!
  • Look just pull the weeds out from the bottom!
  • No, there's too much grass left around the tree.
  • We found a shady tree!
  • Mrs Armstrong-Lush, why are we doing this?
This would opened the floor to some great discussion. We headed to class and I asked the children to answer the following question:

What were we learning about in the native bush area?

Listen to the responses to find out if anyone of the children from my class could make the connection between what we were doing and what we were learning.
